'The gardens looked fantastic today. Loved the large swathes of long grass with wild flowers amongst them, the vegetable garden looked enviously good and the sweet peas are blooming ready for their admirers next week. Lovely lunch outside. Always leave feeling so much better than when I arrived.' June 2013

The Vegetable Garden

The Vegetable Garden is a series of long beds lined with green oak sleepers. The vegetables raised here supply the tearoom throughout the summer and autumn. Winter vegetables include garlic, beans, rhubarb, asparagus and leeks. In the summer this area is very beautiful with contrasting lettuces, corn and runner beans. In the greenhouses we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and squashes.

Our experiment with arches of runner beans, started in 2013, has been very successful. We like the height and the prettiness of these structures. Ducking under hanging runner beans seems to bring the garden experience closer.
